چکیده

Aqueous catalytic polymerization may seem like a contradiction at first sight. The high water sensitivity of Ziegler or Phillips catalysts applied commercially for the production of polyolefins is well known. However, water offers a unique combination of properties as a medium for polymerization reactions: A high heat capacity, which enables an effective transfer of the heat of polymerization. A high polarity that results in a markedly different miscibility with many monomers and polymers compared to organic solvents. Surfactants can effectively stabilize dispersions of hydrophopbic polymer particles in water towards aggregation. Water is nonflammable and nontoxic. The versatile opportunities resulting can be illustrated by the following noncatalytic free-radical polymerization procedures.

Catalytic Ethylene Polymerization in Aqueous Emulsion : Catalyst Tailoring and Synthesis of Very Small Latex Particles

INTRODUCTION Emulsion polymerization yielding polymer latexes, is carried out on a vast scale. The use of water as a dispersion medium offers a unique combination of features, such as effective heat transfer, effective stabilization of polymer particles by surfactants, and environmental friendliness. By contrast to polymerization in solution or in the bulk, in emulsion polymerization a large po...

Recent advances in the polymerization of butadiene over the last decade

The stereospecific polymerization of conjugated dienes began in 1954 with the first catalysts obtained by combining TiCl4 or TiCl3 with aluminum-alkyls, i.e. the catalytic systems previously employed for ethylene and propylene polymerizations. Subsequently, many other catalytic systems were obtained and examined by a combination of transition metal or lanthanide compounds with appropriate alkyl...

Homo-polymerization of α-Olefins and Co-polymerization of Higher α-Olefins with Ethylene in the Presence of CpTiCl2(OC6H4X-p)/MAO Catalysts

Cyclopentadienyl-titanium complexes containing –OC6H4X ligands (X = Cl, CH3) activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO) were used in the homo-polymerization of ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, 1-butene, and 1-hexene, and also in copolymerization of ethylene with the α-olefins mentioned. The -X substituents exhibit different electron donor-acceptor properties, which is described by Hammett’...

Metallocene Catalytic Insertion Polymerization of 1-Silene to Polycarbosilanes

Metallocene of zirconium were used as a catalyst for an insertion polymerization of 1-methylsilene directly into pre-ceramic precursor polyzirconocenecarbosilane (PZCS) during dechlorination of dichlorodimethylesilane by sodium, which exhibits high catalytic effectiveness with the maximum conversion ratio of polycarbosilane up to 91%. The average molecular weights of polymers synthesized are le...

Observation of different catalytic activity of various 1-olefins during ethylene/1-olefin copolymerization with homogeneous metallocene catalysts.

This research aimed to investigate the copolymerization of ethylene and various 1-olefins. The comonomer lengths were varied from 1-hexene (1-C₆) up to 1-octadecene (1-C₁₈) in order to study the effect of comonomer chain length on the activity and properties of the polymer in the metallocene/MAO catalyst system. The results indicated that two distinct cases can be described for the effect of 1-...
